Alaska Highway 1422 miles Delta Junction Dawson Creek, BC
Description:
Historic Highway built by the United States Army during World War II for access to Alaska.  Open and maintained year round.  There are only 302 miles of the Alaska Highway in Alaska.  This is a popular destination for people accessing Alaska with RVs and Motorhomes.  This is the only highway in and out of Alaska.

Denali Highway 133 miles Paxson Cantwell
Description:
This was the original access road for the Denali National Park.  The highway has outstanding scenery and many wildlife viewing opportunities.  It is a gravel road most of the way into the park.  This road is not open to the public year round, there are tour buses that will take you into the park. Public access with personal vehicles is only allowed once a year.

Elliot Highway 156 miles Fox Manley Hot Springs
Description:
Well maintained gravel road with lots of scenic views.  The Elliot Highway parallels the Trans Alaska Pipeline for a short distance.  There are many wildlife viewing opportunities on the drive.

George Parks Highway 324 miles Matanuska Fairbanks
Description:
This is the access road into Denali National Park.  It is a well maintained paved road and is heavily traveled during the Alaska summer.  Excellent Wildlife viewing opportunities in this area.  This area is very scenic and the landscapes are amazing!

Glacier Highway 40 miles Juneau Echo Cove
Description:
Not many roads or highways in Juneau,but if your there this is the drive to take.  Excellent wildlife viewing opportunties and scenic views.  Parts of this road are gravel but well maintained.

Glenn Highway 124 miles Anchorage Tok
Description:
This is a well maintained paved highway.  This is the main access from Anchorage to the Matanuska Susitna Valley recreation areas.  Many fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing opportunities in this area.  The last 125 miles of the Glenn Highway are known as the "Tok Cut Off".  Many scenic views of the Wrangell and Talkeetna mountain ranges.

James Dalton Highway 416 miles Livengood Arctic Ocean
Description:
Rough gravel road heavily traveled by truckers taking equipment and supplies to Prudhoe Bay and other areas along the highway.  Many wildlife viewing opportunities and pristine wilderness.  This areas is not very populated and the road is sometimes all that is there.  This is truely the Alaska wilderness.  Parallels the Trans Alaska Pipeline off and on throughout the complete distance.  The highway is restricted access after mile 211, you must obtain a permit from the Alaska DOT in order to access the entire road.  Drive with headlights on at all times and always yield to big trucks.

Description:
This is a gravel road that for a short distance follows an abandoned railroad track.  It leads into the Wrangell - St. Elias National Park.  Many wildlife viewing opportunities along with scenic mountain views.

Nabesna Road 46 miles Slana Ranger Station Nabesna
Description:
This is a gravel road that is for the most part located within the Wrangell - St. Elias National Park.  This highway is not very well maintained and the last four miles into Nabesna may not be passable.

Richardson Highway 368 miles Valdez Fairbanks
Description:
This is a well maintained paved highway.  It passes through the Alaska Range and the Chugach Mountain Range.  This is an extremely beautiful drive passing scenic mountain ranges and spectacular glaciers.  There are many excellent Alaska wildlife viewing opportunities as well.

Seward Highway 127 miles Anchorage Seward
Description:
One of the most scenic drives in Alaska, passing Turnagain Arm, leading into the Kenai Mountains with beautiful high mountain glaciers and scenic mountain views.  There are many scenic pullouts with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.  This is a brand new highway as of 2000-2001.  Many excellent fishing opportunities as well.

Steese Highway 162 miles Fairbanks Circle
Description:
Interior Alaskas oldest travel route, used by gold miners to haul freight, gold and supplies.  This is a paved road with some breaks in the pavement.  Excellent wildlife viewing opportunities and landscape views.

Sterling Highway 137 miles Seward Junction Homer
Description:
This highway winds through the Kenai Mountains.  This is a well populated area with many fishing opportunities along the way.  This is the "Gateway to the Kenai Peninsula".  There are many wildlife viewing opportunities and scenic pullouts along the way.  This highway is directly connected to the Seward Highway beginning at the "Seward Junction" where you would turn left to go to Seward or turn right to go to Kenai and Homer Alaska. (If traveling South from Anchorage)

Taylor Highway 160 miles Tetlin Junction Eagle
Description:
Steep gravel road with hairpin turns - use caution.  This highway climbs to over 3,500 feet three times between Tetlin Junction and Eagle.  Many scenic views and wildlife viewing opportunities.  Some areas may be impassable at times.
